GAIETY MUSICAL faded into an 80-1 seventh of nine after making the running in a Carlisle Listed race on her second start but was only beaten by a little over five lengths and it confirmed that her debut 250-1 second of 13 at Leicester was no fluke. She’s since run two solid races here at Chelmsford, finishing a 12-1 second of nine in a valuable 7f fillies’ novice contest before her three-quarter of a length third in a 1m maiden won by odds-on Urban Lion. David Evans will likely be pleased with her opening handicap mark of 73 and the first-time hood could help her to get off the mark from a handy draw in stall 3. FFOS LAS 3.25

LUNARSCAPE has only had two runs on soft or heavy going (according to race times, not the official verdict), finishing second at Windsor last spring (12-1) and scoring here at Ffos Las (9-1) on her latest outing. Mark Loughnane’s four-year-old has only been upped 2lb for her latest success and should have plenty more to offer. Buy in the Sporting Index 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

SOUTHWELL 8.40

There’s plenty of early pace in this 5f Racing League handicap and, like last year when the first three home were described the Racing Post as “awkward and hampered start, towards rear”, “Slightly awkward start, outpaced in rear” and “towards rear”, I’m expecting it to be set up for the closers. There are numerous ways to play the race with Sporting Index, such as selling likely pace angle TATTERSTALL, but I’d rather take a chance on outsider THE CALTONIAN. Linda Perratt’s consistent five-year-old likes to come late off a strong gallop and has form figures on Tapeta of 11232111282B3 (5-13).
