Andrew Mount's Racing Tips 17.12.24
Andrew had a stormer in his latest column (Saturday, December 14), finding 22-1 Cheltenham winner GAME ON FOR GLORY, well backed Doncaster scorer WHYNOT and making a healthy profit with his buy of DOUBLE NUMBER OF WINNER in the December Gold Cup (market made up at 18). He’s back with three selections for the racing at Wincanton on Tuesday, December 17...
WINCANTON 1.15
HAAFBACK unseated his rider when 11-2 for a handicap chase at Southwell last time but jumped out to his right on the left-handed track and is taken to bounce back now returned to a right-handed venue. Emma Jane-Bishop’s six-year-old has only had two handicap outings in this direction, causing a 20-1 upset at Ludlow on his penultimate start and finishing an 80-1 second at Kempton back in April. He remains open to improvement on only his tenth career outing and rates a buy in the Sporting Index 50-25-10 market (7-1 in the fixed odds market at the time of writing).
Recommendation: Back HAAFBACK in Wincanton 1.15
WINCANTON 1.45
Paul Nicholls does well when fitting one of his runners with first-time cheekpieces and the value lies in backing those who finished fourth or worse on their latest outing. Since the beginning of 2010, he's won with 38 of the 156 qualifiers (24.4% strike-rate) for a profit of £73.01 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 23.86, A/E = 1.59). Six of the last 13 qualifiers to run at Wincanton have won, including 16-1 shot Sabrina, the latest qualifier back in April. SUPER SAINT was tailed off when refusing two out on his reappearance/hurdles debut at Exeter last month last time but the five-year-old showed ability in bumpers and is worth a small/speculative interest at a big price now that the headgear is tried. Buy in the Sporting Index 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price (18-1 with Sporting Index at the time of writing).
Recommendation: Back SUPER SAINT in Wincanton 1.45
WINCANTON 2.45
Recent form figures of P2PPP hardly suggest that HARJO is a good thing for this 2m4f handicap chase but there are sound reasons for expecting an improved performance this afternoon. Charlie Longsdon’s seven-year-old won this race 12 months ago off the same mark and his trainer is in good form, scoring with three of his 11 runners in the past fortnight (winners at 20-1, 5-1 and 11-4). He’s had a wind operation since pulling up over 3m at Wetherby in early November and his trainer has a fine recent record with wind-op recipients, scoring with three of the last six qualifiers (14-1, 5-1 and 11-4). Buy in the Sporting Index 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price (17-2).
Recommendation: Back HARJO in Wincanton 2.45
Please note that the picks recommended in this blog post are based on past performance and should not be considered a guarantee for future winning outcomes, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
