Andrew successfully opposed GORE POINT on Thursday, suggesting winner ALEXEI as the best alternative, and has three recommended bets/trades on Friday, November 15th…
CHELTENHAM 1.45
HYLAND was trading as the 5-2 second favourite with Sporting Index for this 3m Listed novices’ chase at the time of writing but Nicky Henderson’s seven-year-old could prove vulnerable despite an impressive 15-length course and distance win in a Class 2 novices’ chase at the October meeting. I tipped him in this column on that occasion, but the last three winners of that race were beaten next time (11-4, 11-4 and 2-1f) and, more importantly, Hyland tends to go off the boil as winter arrives, recording form figures in the November to February of 443336 (0-6). Throw in the questionable current form of the Nicky Henderson yard – several short-priced ones have disappointed recently – and he looks worth selling the Sporting Index 50-25-10 market. RESPLENDENT GLORY could be the best option for fixed odds punters.
Recommendation: Oppose HYLAND in Cheltenham 1.45
CHELTENHAM 2.55
TOMMIE BEAU, one of only three horses in the handicap proper for the 3m5f Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase, is very consistent and is taken to get the better of CONFLATED and co in this unique test. The Seamus Mullins-trained nine-year-old has improved this year, recording a career-best RPR (Racing Post Rating) of 146 when successful at Cartmel in May and matching that when scoring at the same venue in late August. He’s been mixing hurdles and chases to good effect and has only once finished out of the frame since October 2023, recording form figures of 41123P112123 (5-12), with the sole exception coming when outclassed in the Scottish National. He’ll cope with the good ground and can be bought in the Sporting Index 50-25-10 market.
Recommendation: Back TOMMIE BEAU in Cheltenham 2.55
WOLVERHAMPTON 4.25
BEAUZON ran up a sequence at Wolverhampton last winter, landing four on the bounce from January 7th to February 3rd. The last of those wins came off a mark of 68 and he was down to just 54 when returning to form with a 6f win here last week. It’s no coincidence that his revival came shortly after the ARC £1,000,000 All-weather bonus scheme commenced (October 22nd), a scheme that offers significant cash prizes for multiple winners. The 5lb penalty is offset by Ryan Kavanagh’s claim and the Ian Williams-trained five-year-old is also entered here next Monday. Buy in the Sporting Index 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back BEAUZON in Wolverhampton 4.25
