TAUNTON 12.55

THURLEY was beaten by a long way at Exeter last time but that was in a strong race and the form has been boosted by runner-up Range, who went one better at Chepstow at the weekend, and 38-length seventh Wellwillya was placed on his return to Exeter yesterday. Thurley’s distant 11^th wasn’t as bad as it looked, especially as he jumped poorly and tried to live with the market principles on the front end. Today’s easier track will suit – he ran well over a sharp 1m7f at Wincanton on his reappearance/hurdles debut, keeping on into a 40-1 fourth of 15 under a patient ride and a return to such tactics could see him out-run huge odds (50-1 with Spreadex at the time of writing). Buy in the 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

CHELSMFORD 6.00

ALFRED only had the one run on the all-weather for previous trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam, doing best of the closers when third in a Kempton nursery, and has improved since switched to the George Boughey yard and returned to synthetics. He justified 9-4 favouritism in a Newcastle nursery on his stable debut, despite failing to settle, and comfortably followed up when 11-10f at Wolverhampton a few days later. His sire, City Light, beat Kachy on Lingfield’s Polytrack on all-weather finals day in 2018, and he should have more to offer on Polytrack. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
